The Sneaky & Successful Free-Kick Trick: Avi Knafo (Hapoel Ra’anana) vs Hapoel Ramat Gan
If the A-Team were footballers they’d probably think up a plan like this to score.
Saturday’s action in the Israeli second division was the backdrop for a clever, albeit a highly sneaky, free-kick routine which proved profitable for Hapoel Ra’anana.
Goalless in the 35th minute, Ra’anana were presented with a free-kick on the edge of the Ramat Gan box. Hapoel’s bald number seven Shahar Simantov looked likely to strike the ball, but he was distracted when Yosef Asayag came over to argue about the dead-ball.
As Simantov put his hands on Asayag’s chest to push him away, Avi Knafo stepped up to curl a beauty past the flat-footed Hapoel Ramat Gan wall and goalie.
